“Families Coping With
Chronic Pain”
In the spring of 2005, this research project was designed to understand how families cope (manage the stress) when an adult family member has been diagnosed with chronic pain. Participant family members filled out an anonymous survey located at this website. Quantitative and qualitative data collected prior to March 18th was downloaded and analyzed, and the results were published as a dissertation for Texas Woman’s University, Denton, Texas. A benefit of participation in the study included access to a summary of the research.
Results of analysis of data provided by family members who participated in the survey after March 18th will be available later in the year at this website. This would include family members who accessed the survey through the Interstitial Cystitis Network website. The research investigator wishes to thank all family members who have given generously of their time to provide a better understanding of what it is like for families to be in close contact with a family member experiencing chronic pain. In addition, each of the following national organizations deserve a special note of appreciation for providing a website link to this survey: AARP, The Arthritis Foundation, National Fibromyalgia Association, National Headache Foundation, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Association, Senior Net, The TMJ Association, Trigeminal Neuralgia Association, and the Interstitial Cystitis Network. Interest in this study has far exceeded the researcher’s expectations, indicating a crucial need for continuing research focused on the families of chronic pain patients.
